Tom Caplan
Associate Teacher, First Grade

Tom is Associate Teacher, First Grade. He joined WDS in the fall of 2021 as Teaching Assistant and took on the role of Health and Wellness Teacher in Spring of 2022. He has more than 15 years of experience in education, including teaching and advising positions at The Brooklyn (NY) Friends School, City and Country School in New York City, the Good News Educational Workshop in Chicago, and as a substitute for the Kingston City School District. 

Tom comes to WDS from the Resource Center for Accessible Living for Ulster and Dutchess Counties where he served as a housing specialist, pre-vocational educator, and employment specialist. His other work experience includes director, educator, and advocate for the Mental Health Association of Columbia and Greene Counties in New York State and inclusion/diversity facilitator and anti-racism/anti-bias trainer and coordinator for A World of Difference Institute for the Capital District and Hudson Valley (something Tom and I share in common!).

Tom holds a Master’s degree in Education from Bank Street College of Education and a Bachelor’s degree  in Psychology from Colorado College. He also holds a NYS Certificate for K-12.
