The Media Arts program at Woodstock Day School is dynamic and cutting edge. Students not only acquire essential production skills but also delve into critical theory, media literacy, and digital citizenship. Our program strikes a unique balance between academic rigor and artistic expression through experiential and project-based learning. This approach ensures that students develop a profound understanding of media, equipping them with the tools and skills for effective storytelling and communication in various digital forms.
Empowering students to tell their stories and fostering artistic expression, our Media Arts program provides access to professional-level technology in our state-of-the-art Media Center. This not only enhances their creative endeavors but also prepares them for the ever-evolving digital landscape.
Our students’ exceptional work has garnered recognition and awards at prestigious festivals such as the Woodstock Film Festival, All-American High School Film Festival, NY Alliance Film Festival, and more. Beyond the classroom, our students actively collaborate with external organizations on video production projects. Notable partnerships include the Ulster County Sheriff’s department, the Wayfinder Experience, and various organizations in Nepal and India.
Graduates of our program go on to attend renowned institutions like NYU/Tisch, CalArts, Emerson, Ithaca, UNCSA Film School, and others. Many alumni are currently making their mark in the industry across the country.
In our commitment to fostering creativity from an early age, we collaborate with lower-grade levels through Media Arts Residences. Working closely with teachers, we seamlessly integrate media arts projects into existing curricula. Witness the magic of collaboration in this video from 2022, showcasing a project with our vibrant 2nd-grade students, where they actively participated in writing the story, storyboarding, acting, and more.
