Arts & Electives
Second Grade
Our youngest members of the lower school, continue their exploration of the arts and movement. Each week, they spend time in our art room, continue their study of violin, learn rhythms and songs in music class, learn cooperative games and sports in Physical Education, and listen to our librarian as she reads aloud to them.
Students participate in our annual drum and dance residency and in our drama residency, rehearsing and performing an original play during a Friday Gathering.
Regular time with their older buddies rounds out a week of exploring, learning, and creating.
Third Grade
Our 3rd Graders also spend time in our art room, continue their study of violin, learn rhythms and songs in music class, listen to our librarian as she reads aloud to them, and learn cooperative games and sports in Physical Education.
They learn the next level of rhythms during our drum and dance residency, rehearse and perform an original play during a Friday Gathering, and create an original film with our Media Arts teacher.
Our 3rd graders continue to spend time with their older buddies.
Fourth Grade
In this last year of Lower School, 4th Graders have exciting opportunities to expand their artistic and kinesthetic skills.
In addition to weekly art class, they begin their study of ceramics.
General music instruction becomes the first step to participating in our beginning ensemble, as students choose an instrument to study and learn to play as a group, performing in our Winter and Spring Concerts. The Drama Residency culminates in 4th Grade with a longer, evening performance of an original play. African Drum and Dance, and weekly Physical Education, Library, and Buddies makes for a rich year of creating and learning.
